Happy Sankranthi...!! with Ellu Bella :D

ஹாப்பி பொங்கல் எல்லாருக்கும்..!!

This is Ellu - Bella, auspicious mixture made during Sankranthi / Pongal which is the first festival of the year(English calendar). This is actually a Karnataka specialty i guess!! This which is a mixture of:

Ellu = Sesame seeds

Bella = Jaggery bits

Peanuts

I have just added a almonds and raisins (just like that.. :P)

Mom is proud that i have made something like this..!! Dad feels i am not his daughter at all, he says I am look-alike of Shruthi, because Shruthi cant do something like this!! :P

A typical Sankranthi day back in India, would begin with a new dress!! :) Then take only blessings from mom, but money and blessings from dad!! These so called blessings from parents, grandparents and relative would range from "Fight less with you brother.." to "May your temper decrease and be like a good gal this year.." to "Get more marks in next exam..!!" to "May you get a good CET ranking..." to "may you find a suitable groom.." Ahh... all these used to be fun, except the last one...!! May be that's why i got married soon, too many people blessing me to get married soon!! :P

Pongal / lemon rice was always made on this day. Yummy it was..!! Afternoon i would go to grandma's house and then few aunts house to distribute this Ellu-Bella. My dearest mom would also send me to neighboring houses to distribute these packets. I was the only gal in 44th cross to do this. Mom was proud..!! So i used to do this for her. Trust me in Jan 2010 also she sent me to so many houses, where i was bombarded with only two questions... "When's wedding..??" and "How come masters plan suddenly..??". The answers were hopelessly long..!! But still enjoyed it..!!

Hmm... this was my day on every Jan 14th :) Awww.. feels so good talkin about HOME!! Wanna go back home right now..!! :) Gr8 day to you all!!

Bollywood Masala...!!

When i was in India, Zoom, MTV, Channel V.... what not...!! Even though i wasn't interested i somehow knew so much of  THE bollywood gossip. A chat with cousins and friends would also help me know about these small tiff's these actresses have against each other and new link ups and new heroins and all the dumb stuff as well....!!

Here I am totally unaware of whats happeneing... so decided to browse a little :) ummm... actually loads of Bollywood stuff today and now noting down the ones i remember.... all the major eye-catching masala of bollywood... Here it comes...:

1. Imran is getting married to Avantika
2. Imran and Ranbir have commented on Sonam saying she worries more about looks than acting :P
3. No one killed Jessica is a good movie. But why is Rani promoting the film more than Vidya??
4. Salman got best actor for Dabaang (Such a yuck!! movie.)
5. Competition between Katrina and Malaika for their songs "Sheela ki jawani" & "Munni badnam hui".
6. Band Baaja baraat is a hit!! (I liked it!!)
7. Chetan Bhagat's "2 States" is going to be a movie soon :) {Hope he doesn't have trouble with it this time!}
8. Wow.. a movie on Telugu actress Silk Smitha. The role is gonna be played by Vidya Balan....??
9. Shah Rukh Khan is having a tough time with everyone. He needs to device ways to patch up soon :)
10. Rani Mukharjee marrying Adithya Chopra next year!!

Ahhhha... I cant think of anymore...!! Anyways GNSD :)

Arjuna vrs Karna

One more mythological one!! 

We all know Arjuna to be a great skillful warrior. Karna has always been known for generosity. This fact intrigued Arjuna too. He thought "We are the Pandavas and we are very righteous and helpful.. But still when needy why do everyone approach Karna..??" He finally approached Lord Krishna for the answer. Like known to us, Krishna will never explain he just demonstrates it practically teaching a lesson.

Krishna calls Arjuna and says "I have created 2 mountains. One made of gold and one made of silver. Do anything you want with them..!" Arjuna is puzzled. Krishna then calls Karna and tells the same thing.

While Arjuna is still wondering about this new task given by the Lord, he is confronted by a father and daughter who seem to be poor and needy. They explain him their situation and that they are in dire need of money. Arjuna remembers the mountains at once at tells them not to worry. He starts cutting the mountains with his own axe and finally after a hard day's work he gives them huge lumps of gold and silver. The father and daughter are very happy. They thank him and take permission to leave. 

While leaving, Arjuna intentionally asks them to go and explain their troubles to karna as well as they can get more money. He is very curious to know how the great Karna would help them.

Like said, the father and daughter approach Karna and explain him all the troubles they are going through and how much they are suffering. Karna listens patiently and without any hesitation and delay gives the entire mountain of gold and silver to each of them. 

Arjuna seeing this act, realizes why he is called "Daan veer Shur Karna ". - My favorite mythological hero...!!
